The Marcel at Gramercy – Gramercy Hotels

The Marcel at Gramercy is a luxury hotel situated near the Gramercy Park Hotel, but not to be confused with it. The Marcel reopened in early 2008 following an extensive transformation. This 135-room hotel is decorated in a modern, chic style that offers luxury in the form of Frette linens and highly designed rooms, along with a slew of amenities.

The perfect location in historic Gramercy Park, The Marcel offers easy access to public transportation and major airports. Within arm’s reach are the hip neighborhoods of the East Village and Lower East Side, Madison and Fifth Avenue shopping, Baruch College, the Empire State and Flatiron buildings. Union Square. Midtown, Soho, Greenwich Village and Chelsea areas are just a short walk away.

Features and Amenities
The Marcel at Gramercy features 135 guest rooms, each one blending elements of the chic mod lobby with classic comforts. Think Frette linens with anima print headboards. When you’re tired from your excursions through New York City, sleep soundly on your custom-made bed, featuring a leather headboard and the aforementioned Frette Italian linens. Feel like sleeping in? Temper the harsh morning light behind your luscious velvet drapes. Guests at The Marcel enjoy cable TV, high speed wifi, luxury bedding, air conditioning, blackout drapes (especially useful in the city that never sleeps), mini bars, voicemail services, wake up calls, luxury toiletries from Lather, desks with ample writing space, irons and ironing boards, MP3 docks, refrigerators and more. You can also get rollaway beds, cribs and morning newspapers delivered on request.
The hotel also boasts a multi-lingual staff, concierge services, complimentary newspapers in the lobby, the use of a nearby New York Sports Club fitness center (The Marcel does not have a fitness center of its own), meeting rooms and business services for working travelers, tour assistance, air-conditioned public areas, valet and laundry service and more.
The Marcel also offers an on-site, underground restaurant and lounge called POLAR. A former storage space lovingly transformed to redefine the New York City ice bar experience – minus the frigid temperature – POLAR is imbued with the dreamy, shimmering aesthetic of the North Pole. Eighties and rock music complete the motif with cold, classic backbeats. Discover a future iconic space distinguished by hidden VIP caves offering private sound systems, bottle service and secret access. Sample eclectic cocktails infused with chilly polar delights, or sip exceptional champagne by the glass or bottle.
The Marcel is located just above Gramercy Park on 24th Street. While the hotel doesn’t get to take advantage of the incredible luxury of being located right on Gramercy Park itself (which can be entered only by those who possess the covetable key), the 24th Street location isn’t too shabby. The hotel is within walking distance of a variety of neighborhoods, including transportation hub Union Square. Walk just a few blocks south and you’ll find yourself at the park, walk a few blocks west and you’ll find yourself at a different park, that of Madison Square, home of Danny Meyer’s famous Shake Shack (word to the wise: waiting in line for Shake Shack on a  nice day takes commitment; be prepared to wait). Gramercy is a quiet, residential neighborhood that is chock full of shops, restaurants and bars – so if you want to stay “close to home” you won’t lack for anywhere to wine or dine. That being said, the hotel’s location is also great in terms of public transportation – it’s right by the 6 train, which goes up and down the East Side of Manhattan – so getting around to visit the tourist attractions you’re dying to see is a cinch.
