Named after the influential soap manufacturers of the 19th Century, Kirkman Lofts are a tribute to a lost time. The building was commissioned in 1915 by Kirkman & Son Soap Company, making 37 Bridge Street the best looking 96 year old in Brooklyn. In a classic daylight factory style, this simple brick façade building is representative of the factory architecture of its time and remains a neighborhood icon. To this day, the original manufacturing cylices remain in the building, and the logo recalls the soap’s archetypal octagon shape, preserving the Kirkman family name.
The designers of this building were very aware of the history, trading glitz for guts, and preserving the building’s original silos and elevating its raw spaces in celebration of its historic beauty. Custom finishes compliment the original factory elements, allowing the history to shine through.
Each loft (studio through 4-bedroom) holds features that will help you fall ever more in love with the surrounding DUMBO ‘feel’. 9-10’ ceilings, restored steel silo accents in common areas, reclaimed wood accents, oversized industrial-inspired windows, QuietRock soundproofing drywall and solid hardwood oak flooring are the perfect foundation to enjoy your panoramic views of Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Kirkman also offers 3 unique townhomes with a private entrance and internal elevator, as well as dramatically high ceiling heights and skylights in the penthouses and townhomes. Each home comes with a complimentary storage space, as well as access to the adjacent bike room.
The kitchens are the perfect setting to prepare and cook your favorite local produce finds. Locally sourced millwork by Avalon Woodworking, custom Baltic birch wood detailing, LG or KitchenAid refrigerator, Bosch dishwasher, 30” Bertazzoni range, matte gray counters & cabinets and Broan hood-this may turn out being your favorite area to congregate in! When you are ready to completely relax, the bathrooms featuring porcelain floor, wall penny tile, custom wood vanity, Toto bathtub and/or walk-in shower, custom and Grohe bath fixtures and Toto dual-flush toilet (for those ‘green’ minded) bring a nice luxurious feel to the lofts.
DUMBO is one of Brooklyn’s up-and-coming neighborhoods. Take a stroll along Brooklyn Bridge Park, brunch at Bubby’s, dessert at Jacques Torres and a take in a unique show at the Galapagos Art Space.
Residents spend their days perusing the talent housed in the Galapagos Art Space and St. Anne’s Warehouse, picking up coffee at the DUMBO General Store to fuel the blocks-long wait at Grimaldi’s, wedding-watching in the park and skimming the massive selection at Powerhouse Books. And with Brooklyn Heights right around the corner, you can schedule endless inter-area play dates.
